Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you: He will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22 NIV

Writing this blog has stirred up some painful memories of my days as a caregiver. It has made me realize how much of my life I have worn the many different hats that were needed to take care of my mother-in-law, my mother and, finally, my husband.

As I think back on how hard these days were, I began to think of all the hats that I wore. Here are a few: chauffeur, dietitian, nurse, counselor, durable medical equipment expert, insurance bill inspector, and the list goes on. And these hats were in addition to my regular responsibilities as a pastor’s wife, parent and wage earner. It’s no wonder I felt overwhelmed.

Cling to today’s scripture that you can cast your care on the Lord. To cast means to throw as hard as you can. Let the Lord carry the burden for you. It’s too heavy for you to carry it alone. When it all comes crashing in, remember that you do not have to do it all by yourself. You have the help of the Lord and there are those around you who will also be willing to help if you ask them to do so.

The second part of this verse is also powerful because it speaks that we will not be shaken when we are trusting Jesus. When a crisis hits, you are tempted to be throw your arms up and say, “I can’t take this any more.” And that is exactly when you can circle back to this scripture that tells you that God will not allow you to be shaken.

Prayer

I am so thankful Lord that You want me to throw all my cares in your direction. You never intended for me to carry them. So today I make an conscious choice to turn all the details of my loved ones’ illness, the financial difficulties, the ever-changing dynamics of our family, and all that concerns us over to You. As I do this, I can stand firm with out being shaken. I will be circling back to this scripture as the days go on. I am grateful for Your concern for me and that You will give me exactly what I need. I partner with You in caring for ____________________. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
