HOPE is an anchor during the storms of life. Hebrews 6:19

HOPE WINS because it grounds us during life’s storms.

Context

We are not certain who wrote the book of Hebrews, although it was accepted as being written by Paul until the 1800’s. It is one of my favorites because it is so full of hope. Our hope is secure because it is based on the finished work of Christ on the cross and His position in Heaven. This book is one of the most significant ones in our Christian faith (right next to Romans).

Weathering Storms

Life can be tough sometimes. I was thinking back on my life and all the storms we have been through. The toughest one was my late husband’s health issues. Up until 2000, we had no idea what was going on. When we received the diagnosis of Muscular Dystrophy it was a strange relief. While it was serious, we now had a reason for his tiredness and weakness. He would jokingly say that he got a very heavy load off of his back – me! At the same time, it was a devastating blow because there was nothing we could really do about it but adjust to the gradual deterioration of his muscles. We needed an anchor. What did we find?

Holding On

In verse 18, you are encouraged to seize the hope that is before you. Grab on to it and become anchored in its truth. You are given the power and strength to do that. We can be confident that God will do what He has promised to do. You can be a hope ambassador as you hold on to the anchor of your hope in Christ. There is a certainty to this hope that goes beyond the storms that come your way. You are secure and sure of the final result. You are certain that not only will your anchor hold but He is holding on to you. That is His oath and promise to never leave you or forsake you.

Firm and Secure

What a blessing to feel secure no matter what comes! As the years went by, my husband grew weaker physically yet stronger in his faith and confidence in God. He was as blessing to all who met him. He encouraged others to rest in the Lord. He certainly learned to do so.  I’m not sure what storm you might be going through, however, I do know that you can build your life on a firm foundation of secure confidence that He has a great plan for you and yours. He will not disappoint you.

HOPE WINS!

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for giving us this hope in Jesus that will hold us in the biggest storms. We put our anchor down into You as an unchanging rock. We also know that you are holding us as we lean into You. Our hope is firm and secure in You because You are the “author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:12). I trust You Lord and know that You have a good plan. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
